You need: an iPhone XS or newer, iOS 16+, and Wi-Fi.
Method 1 — Scan the QR code (recommended)
- Open the email or order page on a second device (laptop, tablet, partner's phone).
- On the iPhone you're installing on: Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Use QR Code.
- Point the camera at the QR. The profile downloads in a few seconds.
- Tap "Continue" → "Add eSIM" → choose a label ("Japan", "Saudi").
- When prompted "Which line do you want to use for...", set the travel eSIM as Cellular Data and leave Default Voice on your home line.
- Done. The profile is installed. It will activate (start counting validity) the first time it connects to a partner network in the destination.
Method 2 — Enter details manually
Use this if you can't display the QR on a second device.
- Settings → Cellular → Add eSIM → Use QR Code → Enter Details Manually.
- SM-DP+ Address:
smdp.io(or whichever is in your activation email). - Activation Code: the long string after
$in the LPA link (we send both). - Confirmation Code: leave blank unless your email specifies one.
If the QR scan fails
- Make sure you scanned the right QR — the email has only one per eSIM, but if you ordered multiple eSIMs they're all in the same email.
- iOS 16+ supports re-scanning the same QR up to 3 times. After that you need to delete the half-installed profile (Settings → Cellular → tap profile → Remove eSIM) and start over.
- Wi-Fi is required for the download. Mobile data on your home SIM does not work for eSIM installs.
Once installed, see "When does my plan actually start" for the activation timing details.
