    Good value for travelers

Esima's eSIM made my travels in Paraguay much easier. I appreciated the ability to connect immediately upon landing at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport. Only minor slowdowns when streaming in remote areas, but overall it performed well.

    Perfect for exploring Asunción

Using esima in Asunción was fantastic! I could stream Netflix without buffering and navigated the city effortlessly. The connection was reliable and I loved not worrying about data limits.

    Decent but some hiccups

I found the esima eSIM useful, but I did face some issues with the app not updating my data balance. The setup via QR code was straightforward, but I expected better speed in the interior regions of Paraguay. It worked well in the cities, though.

    Seamless connection in Paraguay

The esima eSIM worked perfectly throughout my trip in Paraguay. I just scanned the QR code on arrival, and I had 4G speed right away! Totally saved me on data roaming fees.

eSIM vs roaming in Paraguay

Typical home-carrier roaming

£10£18

per day

Esima eSIM

£6.86

Flat rate

Most international carriers treat Paraguay as a tier-two roaming market — you get a small daily data allowance, often capped at 500MB or throttled to 2G speeds after the first gigabyte, and hotspot is usually disabled or charged separately.

The daily fee applies every time your phone touches a Paraguayan tower, so a week in Asunción and Ciudad del Este adds up fast. Roaming bundles from major networks rarely include Paraguay in their flat-rate zones, so you pay the add-on rate whether you use 50MB or 5GB.

An eSIM gives you the full LTE speed Tigo and Claro offer to local customers, hotspot works from the first megabyte, and the price is fixed for the validity window — no surprise charges if you cross into Encarnación for the day or stream a video call from your hotel. The cost difference becomes obvious on any trip longer than three days.

Real trips, real travelers

Built for travelers like you

Different trip, same eSIM — here is how it lands for the most common visitors to Paraguay.

You spend the day in Ciudad del Este's electronics markets, checking prices on your phone, coordinating pickups with suppliers, and converting guaraníes to dollars in real time. The eSIM keeps you online in the commercial center and on the Friendship Bridge queue, so you can confirm orders and arrange transport back to your hotel without hunting for Wi-Fi.

Cross-border shopper

You are driving the Ruta Jesuítica from Asunción to Encarnación, visiting Trinidad, Jesús de Tavarangue, and San Cosme y Damián. The eSIM provides 4G at each mission site and along Ruta 1, so you can pull up historical context, book the next night's accommodation, and navigate detours without losing connection. Coverage thins on rural side roads, so you cache maps before each leg.

Jesuit mission circuit traveler

You are in the capital for meetings, relying on MUV for rides, WhatsApp for client coordination, and Google Maps to navigate between the financial district and your hotel on Avenida España. The eSIM gives you the same LTE speed a local SIM does, hotspot works for your laptop at the coworking space, and you avoid the roaming bill your company would flag on the expense report.

How much data you'll burn per day

WhatsApp

~40MB per day for text and photos, ~120MB per day if you make regular voice calls, ~250MB per day with video calls.

Maps

~150MB per day for live navigation in Asunción and along Ruta 1 or Ruta 2. Cache offline maps for the Chaco and rural detours.

Rideshare

~30MB per day for MUV or Uber in Asunción and Ciudad del Este — each ride request and real-time driver tracking uses 3-5MB.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does the eSIM work in Ciudad del Este near the Friendship Bridge?

Yes — the commercial center has full 4G from Tigo and Claro. The bridge itself and the Brazilian border queue often drop to 3G under crowd load, so finish any app-based tasks before you join the line. The Itaipu Dam tour route loses signal in the buffer zone.

Will I have coverage in the Chaco region?

Sparse 3G on Tigo only, and many estancias and Mennonite colonies are off-grid. If you are driving west of the Paraguay River, download offline maps and cache any accommodation details before you leave Asunción. Claro and Personal have no coverage in the Chaco.

Does the eSIM work at Encarnación's Costanera and the Jesuit ruins?

Yes — both Tigo and Claro provide 4G at the Costanera beachfront and the San Cosme y Damián ruins. Coverage holds along Ruta 1 back to Asunción but thins on rural roads toward the Argentine border at Posadas.

How much data do I need for a week in Asunción and Ciudad del Este?

Three to five gigabytes covers Google Maps navigation, WhatsApp messaging with photos, and occasional video calls. Add another gigabyte if you plan to stream music or use rideshare apps heavily in Ciudad del Este's shopping district. The Metrobús in Asunción has no real-time app, so map usage stays light.

Can I make WhatsApp calls on this eSIM?

Yes — voice and video calls work over the LTE data connection on Tigo and Claro. Quality is solid in Asunción, Ciudad del Este, and Encarnación. Expect dropouts in rural areas and the Chaco, where coverage thins to 3G or disappears entirely.

Does MUV or Uber work on the eSIM in Asunción?

Yes — both apps need live data to match drivers and show real-time locations. The eSIM provides the same LTE connection a local prepaid SIM does, so pickup coordination works normally in the capital and Ciudad del Este. Coverage thins in peripheral barrios east of the airport.

Tigo vs Claro coverage in Asunción — which is stronger?

Tigo has the strongest 4G across the capital, from the Costanera waterfront to Mercado 4 and the government district. Claro matches Tigo in the hotel zone along Avenida España. The eSIM hands off between both networks automatically, so you get the better signal at each location without manual switching.

Does Billetera Personal (the payment app) work on this eSIM?

Yes — Billetera Personal and similar fintech apps work over the eSIM's data connection. You will need to verify your account with an SMS code during first-time setup; make sure your eSIM is active and you have a Paraguayan number provisioned if the app requires local-number registration.

eSIM vs buying a SIM at the Asunción airport — what changes?

The eSIM is live within thirty seconds of scanning the QR code, so you skip the kiosk queue and the passport-photocopy ritual. Pricing is transparent up front, and hotspot is enabled by default. A physical SIM from Tigo or Personal costs roughly the same but requires in-person activation and prepaid top-ups in guaraníes, which can be confusing if you are unfamiliar with the denominations.

Will I have signal on the drive from Asunción to Encarnación?

Yes — Ruta 1 has continuous 4G from Tigo and Claro along the paved corridor. Coverage thins on detours to rural towns and nature reserves. Download offline maps if you plan to visit the Santísima Trinidad mission or other sites off the main highway.

Does the eSIM work at San Bernardino on Lago Ypacaraí?

Yes — Tigo and Claro both cover the lakefront town with 4G. Signal holds along the main road from Asunción but can thin on the eastern shore and in the hills above the lake. Cache your hotel address and any restaurant reservations before you leave the capital.

Can I use the eSIM to navigate Google Maps on the Metrobús in Asunción?

Yes — Google Maps works for route planning, but the Metrobús has no official app and no real-time bus positions. You can see which line to take and where to transfer, but you will not know exactly when the next bus arrives. The eSIM provides the data connection; the limitation is the transit system itself.

How much data does streaming a football match use in Paraguay?

Standard-definition video uses roughly 700MB per hour; HD streams can hit 2GB per hour. If you are watching a full match on Tigo Sports or a similar platform, budget three to four gigabytes. LTE speeds in Asunción and Ciudad del Este handle HD without buffering, but rural areas drop to 3G and may struggle with anything above SD.

Does the eSIM work on the road to Iguazu Falls from Ciudad del Este?

Coverage thins fast once you leave the city — the buffer zone around the falls and the approach roads lose signal entirely on both Tigo and Claro. Download offline maps, your tour confirmation, and any QR-code tickets before you depart. Signal returns once you cross into the Argentine side near Puerto Iguazú, but that is outside Paraguay coverage.

eSIM vs international roaming for a two-week trip to Paraguay?

Roaming bundles from most carriers treat Paraguay as a tier-two market, so you pay a daily fee for limited data, often throttled after the first gigabyte, and hotspot is usually blocked. Two weeks of roaming adds up to more than the cost of a flat-rate eSIM with full LTE speed and hotspot included. The eSIM also gives you predictable pricing — no surprise charges if you use more data than expected.
